Twenty years of memories: the library service of "La Vigil", 1956-1976

The present article takes up the history of the emblematic and popular organization "Constancio C. Vigil" of Rosario, describing its humble beginnings in the 50s, the powerful development during the effervescent decade of the 60's and later patrimonial destruction since the dictatorial intervention in the turbulent '70 in Argentina. From this greater scenario, the growth of the library service is analyzed, identifying the legacy of associationist practices and examining the tensions and ruptures emerging from the vertiginous diversification of projects, spaces, collections and readership in an unprecedented territorial scope. In the experiences of its actors and even more from the documentary records saved from the fire of censorship, a singular case becomes visible while representing a period that certainly requires more historiographical attention.
