This work tries to analyze the literary market in Cali, during the first centenary of the independence. The aim is to show how, thanks to the expansion of the literary offer through local bookstores, circulating literary newspapers, and the opening of the first library in the city, the cultural field began to suffer transformations, which were understood as steps towards modernity. Also, the typographies, as well as the press, the catalogues of the bookstores and the contents of the main library will examined, with the purpose of approaching us the literary forms, genres, and intellectual perspectives to which the public had access, understanding the books like a item for civilize the city during 1910.
